Your Impact
The Animal Friends Alliance Volunteer Team has over 700 of the most passionate individuals in Northern Colorado! Our Volunteer Team donated over 85,000 hours of their time in 2020 to help animals and people in our community. Volunteers help make improve the lives of animals by caring for the cats and dogs in our shelters, the pets that come through the clinic, and fostering animals in their homes. Thank you for your interest in joining the Animal Friends Alliance Volunteer Team!

Philosophy of Volunteer Engagement
Volunteers are an essential part of Animal Friends Alliance’s Vision—that all companion animals experience a healthy home where they are wanted, cared for and loved—and Mission—to provide comprehensive companion animal resources and education to the community to prevent pet homelessness and promote the human-animal bond. The empathy, generosity, and advocacy demonstrated by volunteers on behalf of the animals and people we serve creates a unique environment at Animal Friends Alliance where the opportunity for service and healing can create social change. Through volunteers’ high standards of animal care, active engagement in community outreach on behalf of our organization, and mentorship of new volunteers, Animal Friends Alliance is able to expand our reach to save more lives, help place and keep more animals in loving homes, and offer an inclusive space to perform volunteer service in Northern Colorado.
Volunteer Opportunities
Animal Care Volunteer
Animal Care Volunteers care for adoptable cats and dogs at our shelters. They are responsible for cleaning, feeding, assisting with medical care, and enrichment, including walking, playtime, and socialization.
Community Outreach
Community Outreach Volunteers improve the lives of animals and people in our community by getting the word out about our great services including adoptions, spay/neuter, and Community Pet Resources. Community Outreach volunteers also help run supply drives and events. Responsibilities can include posting fliers, asking for wishlist donations, or educating community memebrs at an outreach table.
Foster Volunteer
Foster Volunteers provide temporary shelter and care for animals in their homes. They also transport fosters to and from the shelter for veterinary appointments and adoptions. Foster volunteers must be at least 18 years old and have a home check. Please visit the Foster Volunteer page for more information.
