LOST OR FOUND PETS

If you have found a stray or lost animal in your neighborhood, the best thing to do first is to contact the humane society or animal control provider for your county. When you file a found-animal report, your local humane society can help you determine if the animal is owned.

*Animal Friends Alliance is a limited-admission shelter and receives animals by appointment only. We cannot accept animals on a walk-in basis.

Stray Kittens or a Cat with Kittens

Found kittens outside? They may not be abandoned. Mother cats often leave their kittens alone temporarily while they search for food. Before stepping in, take a moment to observe from a distance to determine whether the kittens are truly orphaned or if their mom is simply away.

This helpful guide from Best Friends Animal Society explains how to tell whether kittens need help and what steps to take if they do.

If you’d like more information about caring for or assisting stray kittens, Alley Cat Allies offers additional guidance on how to safely and responsibly help community cats. They also include tips on estimating a kitten’s age here, which can help you decide the best course of action.

For local support, including Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) resources, visit Animal Friends Alliance’s Community Cat Program page, where you can also submit an assistance request form. Another local organization that supports feral and community cats is Northern Colorado Friends of Ferals.

These resources can help ensure kittens and their mothers receive the care and support they need while keeping community cats safe and healthy.
