dog behavior program
Animal Friends Alliance offers accessible canine behavior support services to the public through in-person and virtual consultations with our certified behavior professionals.
We can provide support for many different behavioral concerns, including general socialization and puppy behaviors, anxiety and fear, and reactivity and aggression. Components of a consultation may include discussing management strategies for challenging behaviors, implementing behavioral modification and training protocols, prescribing medications to help with anxiety and behavioral health, and providing referrals for continued support with trusted community partners who use scientifically-backed, humane methods. We are committed to providing a judgment-free place to discuss behavioral concerns, safety, and quality of life as you work through these challenges together.
All consultations take place at the Jason Telleen Adoption Center, located at 2200 N Taft Hill Road in Fort Collins, Colorado. Consults are about 45 minutes long, and a case summary and resources will be sent via email about two weeks after the consultation. For pets adopted from Animal Friends Alliance, the consultations follow a fee schedule based on length of ownership. Consultations for pets acquired from other sources are typically $75 - $100. Depending on case specifics, your appointment will be scheduled with either Dr. Amanda or Olivia. Please email Amanda.Payne@SavingAnimalsToday.org with information about your dog and their behavioral challenges to start the scheduling process and get more information.
Amanda M. Payne, DVM, CBCC-KA
As a licensed veterinarian and certified canine behavior consultant, Dr. Amanda typically sees cases where medical concerns may be a contributing factor or where behavioral support medications may be indicated. These cases often include dogs with obsessive behaviors, severe anxiety or fear, reactivity, and over-arousal components.
Olivia Van Vleet, CPDT-KA
Olivia is a certified trainer who focuses on supporting puppies and dogs while they learn about the world around them. These dogs may be fearful or under-socialized, or they may be overly-enthusiastic about all life has to offer. Her areas of expertise include helping dogs develop emotional regulation skills and facilitating more fluent communication with both the humans and other dogs in their lives.
